Levels on the River Mellte and River Sychryd are set to be good this weekend, and the weather forecast is also for dry weather so overall conditions for Gorge Walking & Canyoning activities are looking good. We've had a little rain in the region recently which will have kept a level of water in the ground, meaning if there is any unexpected heavy rainfall you will get flashing on both the rivers.
Water levels are currently just over 2m, so you may find plunge pools are too shallow for some of the common jumps and you will need to ensure you are only on the gorge with experienced guides so they are able to adjust any activities and routes. Although the river levels are low, you will still need to ensure you have full safety equipment for any of our outdoor activities, including helmet, buoyancy aid, wetsuit and good footwear - all of which we provide.
Air temperature has also noticeably dropped in the last week or so, so thermal protection, before, during and after any outdoor activity is really important!
Unfortunately it doesn't look like we're going to see the correct conditions for Coasteering this weekend. Although the wind looks to be Northerly over the weekend, the swell is likely to be a bit too high to run the event, and the winds will also be very strong making any change in direction a concern too. Friday has good swell but the wind will be a strong Westerly meaning any Coasteering activity is unlikely to go ahead.
We could see some decent surfing conditions over the weekend. Swell should be around the 3ft - 4ft size but there will be a strong Northerly wind which may hold the waves up, meaning a decent break. Novice surfers may find the wind too strong however with gusts over 24knots, so either find some protected bays or find another outdoor activity to fill your weekend, such as Gorge Walking or Canyoning.
A drop in the temperatures here in South Wales isn't enough to dampen our spirits and we are still running activities across the weekend. We've got an all day Gorge Walking event on Thursday and we'll be welcoming groups over the weekend to the Brecon Beacons for both Gorge Walking & Canyoning activities.
We've mentioned it already, but full safety equipment and proper thermal protection is absolutely vital for any outdoor activity!
