Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales Outdoor Activities Conditions - 02.02.2017

Gorge Walking, Gorge Scrambling & Canyoning Outdoor Activities

Mother nature isn't being kind to those who want to participate in some outdoor activities this weekend in South Wales it would seem. River levels on the Afon Mellte in the Brecon Beacons are currently high, and with more rain forecast Thursday and Friday they aren't likely to drop in the next couple of days. Depending on how late into Friday we get any heavy rain you may find Gorge Walking and Canyoning activities will need to be called off.

Friday also sees a weather warning for South Wales for strong gale force winds and whilst the wind itself rarely causes issues with Gorge Walking or Canyoning, it is often an indicator of heavy rain, which is always a concern on the rivers in the mountain regions. Under no circumstances should you even be considering taking part in an activity without an experienced guide who understands the weather patterns in the South Wales region and who knows the area in which the activity is expected to be taking place.

Coasteering Activities In Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales

As we mentioned above, we're expecting some wet and very windy weather over the next couple of days in South Wales. Friday sees a weather warning for South Wales due to the strength of the wind. On top of the wind speed, the direction is also in a primarily Southerly direction, meaning any Coasteering activities are likely to be off.

The wind dies down over the weekend, however the swell looks like it's going to take over from it, possibly getting up to 10ft at times, which again makes any Coasteering activities on the South Wales coast extremely difficult. Normally in these situations, we fallback to our Gorge Walking and Canyoning activities, however as we've already said, even these look to be uncertain to go ahead this weekend unfortunately.

Surfing, Surf Kayaking, Beach Days and Paddle Boarding

One thing we don't look to be short of this weekend in South Wales is surf. Saturday could see some massive surf along our coast, possibly 10ft+ so the experienced surfers could find some fun conditions if they head to one of the sheltered bays, such as Caswell Bay in Swansea or Rest Bay in Porthcawl.

As you can probably imagine, the less experienced surfers and those who aren't strong surfers will find this weekends conditions incredibly challenging and our advice to them would be to stay clear of the water this weekend.

Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales Stag & Outdoor Activities

Planning, planning, planning. That's what our days are filled with at the moment.

We're still out and about scouting the various locations in South Wales we use for our Gorge Walking and Canyoning activities to ensure the routes are still the best routes. We're also taking this opportunity to work with our guides, providing more training in a number of areas, such as Water Management, First Aid and the RLSS National Water Safety qualification.

We're also gearing up to welcome our first batch of Stag Do and Hen Parties from across the South Wales region, including Cardiff, Swansea and Porthcawl. There are still weekend packages available throughout the year if you haven't gotten your Stag Do or Hen Party sorted yet, but they are filling up so get in touch today and we can talk you through all of the packages / options.
