Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales Activities Conditions Report - 12.08.2016

South Wales Gorge Walking, Gorge Scrambling, Canyoning & Ghyll Scrambling Activities

We've had some interesting weather over the last week in South Wales, however the last few days have been fairly good meaning we once again have some good conditions for Gorge Walking and Canyoning. The River Mellte and River Sychryd are both running well and there is still a decent amount of water in the ground, so waterfall levels are also going to be consistent.

The ground levels may not be fully saturated currently, but flashing of the rivers is always a danger, so knowing recent rainfall amounts, particularly in the previous 12 - 18 hours is vital. Any large increase in the river levels will mean the water flow force increases. Make sure you only participate in an activity being run by knowledgable, experienced professionals who know the local environment.

Coasteering Activities In Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales

We could see some really good conditions for Coasteering this weekend, particularly on Sunday into Monday. Swell size should be small enough and we're expecting gentle offshore Easterlies on the South Wales too. Our usual recommendations, such as Caswell Bay in Swansea, could still provide some of the best conditions for your Coasteering activity.

As we move into the following week, wind speed is looking like it's going to increase substantially and the direction is expected to swing around to onshore Southerlies meaning it's unlikely you're going to see the right conditions in the middle of next week for a Coasteering activity. You may want to head inland and try some Gorge Walking or Canyoning instead.

Surfing, Surf Kayaking, Beach Days and Paddle Boarding

The weekend isn't looking too good for Surfing unfortunately. Even though we have the gentle offshore winds which can help hold the waves up, the swell just doesn't look like it's going to be big enough. As we head into the early part of next week, the wind speed is expected to increase but unfortunately it doesn't mean swell size will also increase.

Towards the middle and late part of next week we may see the swell size increase, but this also comes with a further wind speed increase so experienced surfers may find acceptable conditions in some of the sheltered bays on the South Wales coast, but novice surfers may well find the conditions too challenging in the latter part of the week.

Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales Stag & Adventure Activities

They'll be no resting for us this weekend and into next week as we take more Stag Do's, and Hen Parties from Cardiff, Swansea or Porthcawl on both Gorge Walking and Canyoning activities. We've also been taking some scout troops who are on their summer camps in the Swansea and Cardiff areas on the gorge, proving that Gorge Walking can be configured to suit all ages and abilities.

On top of this we have a Hen Party joining us in Porthcawl for some Surfing lessons and some more groups taking part in one of our Beach Days! No rest for the wicked as they say.
