Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales Activities Conditions Report - 01.09.2016

South Wales Gorge Walking, Gorge Scrambling, Canyoning & Ghyll Scrambling Activities

Summer has finally arrived in South Wales! We've had bright sunshine and scorching temperatures (for this part of the world anyway). All this sun and dry weather means the river levels are currently fairly low and ground water levels will have also reduced. Whilst this is good for Gorge Walking and Canyoning it does bring it's own challenges.

The lower water levels will mean the plunge pools are much shallower than you would expect, so you need to be careful with any jumps. We're also expecting some heavy rain due over the weekend (we got a week without it), and that on top of the dry conditions can lead to lots of debris finding its way into the rivers and flowing down. Any heavy rain can lead to flashing on the rivers, so you need to be very aware of rainfall levels in the hours before any planned activity.

Coasteering Activities In Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales

Coasteering looks to be out this weekend. We've got strong Westerlies over both days, gusting to over 30 knots and the swell is set to get pretty big, gradually increasing across Saturday to 6ft - 9ft by Sunday. Even our sheltered East facing bays such as Oxwich Bay in Swansea will still not provide enough protection for a Coasteering activity.

Your best bet this weekend if to head inland to the Brecon Beacons and join us for some Gorge Walking or Canyoning activities which will give you all the thrills you're after whilst removing the coastal conditions.

Surfing, Surf Kayaking, Beach Days and Paddle Boarding

Surfing conditions are going to be challenging across the weekend if you're not experienced. However, our experienced surfers could find some good, challenging conditions across both days, with swell ranging from 3ft - 4ft on Saturday and getting up to 6ft - 9ft on Sunday.

We do have strong Westerlies across the weekend, so you will want to head to some of the Easterly facing bays with have on the South Wales coast - places such as Caswell Bay and Oxwich Bay could see some of the best Surfing conditions.

Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales Stag & Adventure Activities

We're getting towards the end of summer holidays, but we're still entertaining a variety of groups across the week. We've got more Scout troops on their summer camps joining us for Gorge WalkingCanyoning and possibly a Beach Activity Day. The Stag Do's and Hen Parties are still joining us too from across Cardiff and Porthcawl to take on some Gorge Walking and Canyoning.
